An insight on any unfamiliar words

 

 

Lumens: The unit of measurement of light, or 'luminous flux'.

 

 

Lumen depreciation: the decrease in lumen output that occurs as a lamp is used.

 

 

Brittish thermal unit (Btu): Amount of energy needed to heat one pound of water one degree Fahrenheit.

 

 

Rapid cycling: Frequent on/off cycling.

 

 

Illuminance: total amount of visible light that covers a point on a surface from all directions above the surface with the human eye as the measurement tool.

 

 

Incandescent light bulbs: A type of light bulb that works through the heating of a filament within the glass bulb or incandescence. It is more commonly used and not as energy efficient because most of its energy is lost through heat.

 

 

CREE LED bulbs: "LED" stands for "Light-emmitting diode" and it emits light when an electric current runs through it. Early LEDs used to only produce red light but are now able to produce more colors and are often a more energy efficient alternative to the most commonly used incandescent bulbs. CREE is a company that specializes in such efficient lighting and energy adn also the brand the dining hall and Satellite plan to switch to. 

 

 

Relay Panel Switch: provides automated lighting control from a switching platform

 

 

Photocells: are sensors that detect light for control systems

 

 

Dimming Panel: receives input from occupancy and daylight sensors to automatically control the lighting level
